Insights of a Thoughtful Life

Reflective thoughts, original poems and cultural commentary–posted weekly

“A weekly reflection through verse and imagery.

Original poems reflecting faith, memory, culture, and the quieter questions that shape a thoughtful life.

Just like a fiddler

Who skips along the roof.

Stepping ever lightly

And yet, not aloof.

Roles are wide and varied

With different pulls and tugs.

Love God and His creation

Seek guidance from above.

Virtuous, lovely lady—

A husband’s pride and joy.

Strumming on his heart’s strings.

Beyond trust —his choice!

A life so full of wonder—

Husband and children, too.

Factor in the in-laws—

Your hat has many hues.

Talk about Redundant—

That “working mother” blurb!

If you are a mother,

Working’s a standing verb.

Some have no choice.

They work to survive.

Balance is more challenging

For basic goals to thrive.

Perhaps it’s just our culture

That lures us from the home.

Your quests must be examined-

Will they wait ‘til kids are grown?

Is your schedule balanced,

Or packed to the brim?

Never a quiet moment                                                                                      To say a prayer or hymn?

Again, let us examine—

Must everything be just so?

Striving for perfection

Can take away our glow.

 Yet the circumstances

May demand a change of plans.

Some of us are single—

Responsible for our clan.

Balance is ever needful,

From youth to ancient age.

Remember, it’s the journey!

We need to be a sage.

Often we are sandwiched

‘Twixt kids and parents old.

Demands are always present

“Super Mom” must be the role.

Imperative is the balance

As we live within this world.

Make God your Lord and Captain

As you raise your boy or girl!

Indeed, it isn’t easy,

Though some manage well.

Keep the “Main thing, the Main thing!”

And all will turn out swell.

  1. I must say I’ve been really impressed, watching young Christian moms who are raising their children well. That gives me hope.
